Inclusive Education

Parkland School Division is an inclusive education system. An inclusive education system is one that demonstrates behaviours and decisions that reflect the value we hold for all students. The Division is committed to achieving this goal of inclusive learning opportunities for all students.

At École Meridian Heights School, everyone is accepted and welcomed into the “Magic”. Every student, no matter their ability, disability, language, cultural background, religion, sexual orientation and gender identity, can make meaningful contributions to our school and community.

Using the programs of study as the framework for learning, every student is engaged in meaningful and authentic ways. All students are treated equitably; support is available and provided when they need it, ensuring that all students have access to quality learning opportunities.

Counselling

Elementary and junior high school counsellors are educators uniquely trained in child and adolescent development, learning strategies, self-management and social skills. They implement a comprehensive school counselling program to support students through these important developmental periods.

The school counseling program provides education, prevention and intervention activities, which are integrated into all aspects of students’ lives. The program teaches students the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for academic and, more notably, social/emotional development.
